If you would like to have a successful orthodontic experience, it’s best to stay as healthy as possible during your treatment. If you stay healthy, your teeth and appliance will remain in tip-top shape and you will have the smile results you are looking for. So, to help you take good care of your oral health while you transform your teeth, our Quality Orthodontic Care team recommends doing the following things:
Keep up on oral hygiene
It’s very important for you to keep up on oral hygiene. If you don’t, food and plaque can get trapped in the small crevices of your appliance and can cause tooth decay and enamel stains. So, make sure you brush and floss your smile after each meal and snack. We also recommend rinsing your mouth with mouthwash at least once a day.
Avoid certain foods
As you may already know, there are certain foods that can hurt your teeth and appliance while you are aligning your smile. Those foods are sugary, starchy, sticky, and chewy products. Please do your best to avoid eating these foods while your smile is transforming.
Wear a mouthguard
Mouthguards are handy appliances that can protect your teeth and braces while you are active. If you wear a mouthguard while playing sports, skateboarding, skiing, etc., your smile will be safe from the hard, forceful objects that hit it.
