Invisalign Instead of Traditional Braces

Posted .

The optimal time to get braces is in the middle teen years. At this age, the adult teeth have all come in, and it easy to determine whether or not they will need adjusting for crowding or other issues. This age group is also very sensitive to how they are perceived and may not be happy to have a “metal mouth.” For these, a better option may be Invisalign.

What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign trays are made of clear plastic rather than metal wires and brackets with bands. The molded tray is worn for about two weeks and is switched out for a new tray made slightly different to make incremental changes to the teeth. Each additional tray will move your teeth a bit more until the final tray properly aligns them perfectly.

The gradual movement of your teeth into the desired final position is done using digital models of what your teeth look like from the start to the finish. Once the last tray has finished its job, you will be given a retainer to wear at night to enforce that your teeth do not drift back into misalignment.

There are times when your orthodontist will recommend traditional braces rather than Invisalign because of the potential for a better potential for the best outcome.
